Conceptual design and implementation of a university field trip map and guide based on the Rhine-Neckar area

The university field trip map with a accompanying guide will afford comprehensive and essential knowledge about the Rhine-Neckar area as well as special topics with suggestions for field trips. This field trip map addresses to geography and geology students as well as to students of other disciplines. However, the general public is as well the audience, as this work will have the capability to give people an understanding of the variety, complexity and specific characteristics of the Rhine-Neckar area.

Concerning the contents, the typical geographical perception will be in the focus: Human-environmental interactions. Nevertheless, topics and field trips that do not primarily deal with human impacts will be part of the map respectively the guide.

Up to now, many publications that dealt with the Rhine-Neckar area focused on geology and geomorphology but lost sight of the human impact on the landscape. First of all, this focus seems to be a disadvantage. But eventually this leads to the opportunity to give focus to issues about the human-environmental interactions as the geological and morphological topics are sufficiently presented in appropriate publications.

The different topics are worked out by students in the course of their theses (Diploma, Master of Arts, Bachelor, state examination). A revised and summarized version of their work will be published in the university field map/guide with the mention of the original author.

For editing these theses, motivated students are invited to join the project.
