About the Project
In his doctoral project, Jens Schneider investigates how urban wilderness emerges in European and non-European cities and how it is interpreted and socially negotiated. The central question is how urban wilderness is spatially configured through the interplay of ecological processes, social narratives, and institutional governance practices. Using a multimodal research design, he analyzes urban wilderness as a socio-ecological process through case studies in Berlin, Copenhagen, and Singapore to examine how conceptions of nature, control, and ecological openness emerge in the urban landscape.
