The spatial, social and economic dimension of science

In 2011, on the occasion of its 625th anniversary the Heidelberg University will publish an Academic Atlas. Containing more than 100 contributions, the volume will document the university’s local, national and international spatial relations over the last 625 years. The atlas, which will be published in both a German and an English edition in the spring of 2011, will be divided into two sections. The first section will pertain to the entire university, while the other will focus on the individual faculties, departments or central institutions. The Institute of Geography, which is responsible for the scientific concept, coordination and editing of the Atlas, is working in close cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (IfL) in Leipzig, which has already published the National Atlas of Germany (12 volumes, 2002-2006) and is responsible for the cartography of the Academic Atlas.
