Dr. Steffen Knoblauch
Steffen Knoblauch is a PhD student and Research Assistant at the GIScience Research Group of the Institute of Geography in Heidelberg. He has a background in Industrial Engineering with a strong focus on Data Science, Machine Learning, Stochastic Optimization and Market Engineering in the domain of future mobility and smart grid applications. He gained practical experience in this area while working for the start-up company Lilium GmbH as an intern as well as a working student. He had further affiliations with Daimler, Strabag/Züblin, the “Smart Grids and Energy Markets” research group at KIT and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe, where he wrote his master thesis about the “Development of Decentralized Coordination and Search Mechanisms to Optimize UAV-Based Damage Assessment in Disaster Areas”. During his studies, Steffen gained considerable experience abroad while studying at “Técnico Lisboa” in Portugal and the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería” (ETSI) in Bilbao, Spain. He is familiar with the German, English, Spanish as well as Portuguese language and thus specially interested in humanitarian projects in the Global South. Before joining the GISScience research group he worked as a part-time research assistant at the HeiGIT GmbH in Heidelberg. He is currently conduction research especially in the area of spatio-temporal modelling, deep learning and big spatial data analytics for humanitarian aid.
