Research Project
Civic Participation and Urban Development in the Knowledge Age.
This project focuses on the role and efficiency of public participation and civil engagement as instruments of contemporary urban development. In the last few years these instruments have received increased attention and became an essential element of new urban governance on a local scale. Especially in modern knowledge-based societies there is a particular benefit of these new arrangements of public participation, namely the use of citizens’ skills and knowledge for an effective sustainable urban development. Although the concept of public participation is considered to be accessible for everybody, still certain social groups are not participating for different reasons which Gino Meier aims to analyze in his PhD thesis.
