Prof. Dr. Hans Gebhardt

Hans Gebhardt is professor for Human Geography at the Heidelberg University since 1996. Between 1990 and 1996 he had a position as Professor for Human Geography/Regional Studies of South-West Germany at the University of Tübingen.

Research interests focus on different research areas. Traditionally urban research and political geography are dominant, regionally the Middle East, South East Asia and China. During the last years projects of integrative environment-society research have been increasingly added. For more details please see Research.

Prof. Gebhardt is engaged in numerous organizations of research and academic self-government (member of the board of the Association of Geographers at German Universities (VGDH); reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) etc.). He is a member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) in Hannover as well as of its regional working group in Baden-Württemberg and a full member of the Commission of Historical Applied Geography in Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, he holds various posts at the Heidelberg University (Graduate Academy, foundation administration etc.). He has edited and/or written a range of standard textbooks of geography (Humangeographie, Lehrbuch der Geographie, Geographie Deutschlands, Geographie Baden-Württembergs) and he is an editor of the Geographische Zeitschrift.

In teaching, Prof. Gebhardt regularly offers excursions to foreign countries as well as a wide range of seminars and practical courses in human geography for students in basic and advanced studies.
