Proceedings

Since the 1st AMK annual conference at the Gesamthochschule Essen (now the University of Duisburg-Essen), for which the 6th volume of the Essener Geographische Arbeiten was published, an AMK conference volume has been published almost every year containing the works of the working group members, usually in the publication series of the organising institutes. This makes the AMK one of the most productive working groups of the German Geographical Society (DGfG).

Selected covers of AMK conference proceedings (upper left to lower right): Erdkundliches Wissen Vol. 105 (1991), Münchener Geographische Abhandlungen Vol. B13 (1993), Coastline Reports Vol. 1 (2004), Marburger Geographische Schriften Vol. 145 (2008), Coastline Reports Vol 17 (2011), Bremer Beiträge zur Geographie und Raumplanung Vol. 44 (2012), Mainzer Geographische Schriften Vol. 55 (2013), Coastline Reports Vol. 25 (2015).

The era of institute publication series is largely over, but we would still like to continue the tradition of AMK conference proceedings with the 40th annual conference in Heidelberg this year. The requirements for a suitable journal were (in descending order of relevance):

  • Thematic coverage of the entire spectrum of (coastal) geography
  • Included in relevant databases such as Science Citation Index (SCI) and Scopus
  • Rigorous peer review
  • Online open access (CC BY 4.0)
  • No publication costs for authors
  • Publication as a complete thematic issue, not just as a virtual collection across different volumes
  • No generation of shareholder value for a large commercial publisher
  • Publication and support by a scientific entity
  • Journal Impact Factor

The journal ERDKUNDE of the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn fulfils all these criteria of fairness and relevance. ERDKUNDE was founded in 1947 and has successfully mastered the transformation to an international Diamond Open Access Journal (free to read, free to publish) with inclusion in the SCI (Impact Factor 2022: 1.4). With representation in all relevant databases, publication in ERDKUNDE is also relevant for doctoral students on their way to a cumulative dissertation. The journal covers all areas of geography thematically and is therefore particularly well suited to reflect the state-of-the-art and to present the latest research findings of German coastal and marine geography research in a closed thematic issue.

All participants of the AMK conference are invited to submit papers. If there is interest beyond the participants, please send an email to AMK2024@uni-heidelberg.de. Submission will be open from the time of the conference in mid-June, the deadline is 31.12.2024. Submission modalities will be announced during the conference or by email. All information for authors can be found on the journal's homepage.
