Economic transformation process in Hungary

The project focusing on the economic transformation process in Hungary between 1990 and 1996/97 builds upon previous DFG-funded projects in which social, demographic, economic, and educational geographic questions were addressed. This research project concentrates primarily on those geographic disparities which evolved in the Hungarian labour market during the transformation process from a planned to a market economy and in the following years up until the mid-1990s. Besides investigating the structures and processes in the labour market, the privatization and new establishment of business is given special consideration as an indicator for economic success. Data for this research project includes individualized census data from 1980 and 1990, local survey data such as the Microcensus of 1994, the Labour Force Survey of 1994/95, and the Household & Budget Survey of 1995.
