Methods focus on the development and application of modeling tools, such as the TRAIN hydrological model or the LADEMO land-use model. The models are refined and calibrated based on the improved understanding of processes gained during field experiments and on data collected in the field. Analyses based on remote sensing methods also play an increasingly important role here, such as the development of snow cover or vegetation cover over space and time.

Our projects cover a broad range of basic and applied research. Our research focuses on investigating and modeling water availability in arid areas and cold regions of the world, assessing the impacts of climatic variations and land-use changes on the water cycle and energy balance of watersheds, and understanding the mechanisms underlying the occurrence of hydrological extremes.
