DISSERTATIONPROJECT
In his doctoral dissertation, Hamid A. Abud R. examines the current conditions of public transportation on the Yucatán Peninsula, the forces that have driven its privatization, and its role in constructing and maintaining unequal development. The right to move freely is hindered in cities where public transport serves profit and mobility as a right is neglected. Bus routes reflect the limited range of movement available to workers, whose only journey is the repetitive commute to and from work. These constraints limit equal access for all urban residents to all aspects of their environment and undermine their right to the city.
