MapSwipe Crowdmapping on Street-Level Imagery
MapSwipe, a crowdmapping app, has recently introduced a new feature that integrates street-level imagery, enhancing its ability to map detailed features such as waste on the streets. Volunteers can now classify road conditions, building attributes, and environmental factors using panoramic, 360-degree images from sources like Mapillary. This update significantly broadens the mapping possibilities beyond satellite imagery. An example of its use is a project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where volunteers identified waste piles to assist in optimizing waste disposal and improving public health. The app's expansion opens up opportunities for disaster response, urban development, and environmental monitoring.
