Geomorphology and soil geography

In the Department of Geomorphology and Soil Geography (Prof. Dr. Olaf Bubenzer, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel) and Physical Geography of the Anthropocene (Prof. Dr. Ingmar Unkel), we use scientific methods to investigate the geo-factors (including relief/shape of the Earth's surface, climate, soil, water, vegetation) of landscapes, record their geological and historical heritage, and describe/model the ecosystem relationships currently at work within them.

The main areas of research at the Chair of Geomorphology and Soil Geography include environmental research, geomorphology and soil geography, landscape development, arid zone research and geoarchaeology.

Our publications page and our research projects page provide an overview of our current research.

Staff

Team Meeting

In our department, everyone helps to make teaching a holistic concept and thus more than just the sum of the individual courses. This includes employees, doctoral students, student assistants and, of course, the secretariat.

Luminescence Laboratory

Taschenuhr liegt im Sand

In our luminescence laboratory, we use luminescence dating. This method utilises the natural radioactivity of the environment as a kind of clockwork to determine the age of geomorphological sediments or comparable archives.
