Digital applications are already widespread in nature conservation and range, for example, from the recording of species and habitats to interconnected data infrastructures, powerful analysis methods and new communication and participation formats. The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) has systematically analyzed the complex interrelationships between digitalization and nature conservation and developed a potential and risk analysis.

Address

Event Type
Transient Spaces Lecture Series
In the lecture, these potentials and risks of digitalization for nature conservation will be presented. They strongly depend on the actual design and application of digital methods. Therefore, nature conservationists should play an active role in shaping the development of digitalization. Using examples from the field of machine learning/artificial intelligence, challenges and approaches to solutions will be discussed as to how digitization can contribute to successful nature conservation efforts.
