Ulrike Gerhard is a professor of Human Geography of North America & Urban Geography at the Department of Geography and the Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) at Heidelberg University. Her research focuses on current urban development processes shaped by globalization, digitalization, and culturalization. Important topics include social justice, trust, neighborhood, and housing. By combining theoretical approaches to urban research with empirical social science research, her goal is to actively shape the city of tomorrow. Her regional focus is on North American, European, and German cities, which she analyzes together with actors from urban society and students. Ulrike Gerhard is deputy director of the Heidelberg Center for American Studies, spokesperson for the DFG Research Training Group 2244 Authority and Trust in American Society, and head of the Working Group Stadtzukünfte of the German Geographical Society. She is also principal investigator (PI) in the MSCA EU Horizon Doctoral Network C-Newtral Cities and in the SFB 1671 Heimat(en).
