Institute
At the Institute of Geography, we conduct research and teach on the diverse relationships between humans and the environment, with a particular emphasis on the spatial perspective. Our discipline—Geography—is characterized by a broad spectrum of natural, social and technical sciences research approaches and innovative methods. This diversity makes Geography unique as a discipline.
Precisely because of these different perspectives, the subject is particularly well-suited to addressing the challenges of global change and its local impacts, as well as to fostering interdisciplinary cooperation within and beyond Heidelberg University. The diversity and potential of Geography are also reflected in the structure of its subfields: Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Geoinformatics.
